Volunteer in Ethiopia; Teaching Positions Available!

The Children of Light community is currently expanding our team. We are seeking passionate volunteers to assist in the development our ESL program in Gambo, Ethiopia. Applications are being accepted for the 2014 summer program, which will run through July and August; 4-week and 8-week opportunities are available.  If you would like to assist in the development of our curriculum, opportunities to volunteer in Canada are also available.

About the Program
Children of Light facilities a youth summer program in the rural region of Gambo, Ethiopia during July and August. The program is managed by a group of volunteers and is provided to the community free of charge. English as a second language is the focus of the curriculum, extra-curricular activities also include music and art.

Strong Applicants
Those who share our vision in reducing childhood poverty, and connect with our core values, should consider applying to teach in Gambo. Strong applicants include ESL teachers, those who have previously worked with children, and individuals who have experience working and/or volunteering abroad. We will also consider educational background and work experience.

Volunteer Responsibilities
Volunteers are needed to assist in the development of our curriculum, and are expected to attend 2-3 preparatory meetings, in order to plan and prepare for travel to Ethiopia.  Accordingly, volunteers are required to manage their own classrooms, create their own lesson plans, and have a comprehensive understanding of how to teach English as a second language. Teachers are also responsible for keeping student records organized, marking weekly tests, preparing report cards and building a positive student-teacher relationship.
